Sui has passed 5 billion total transactions, according to a BSC News report published on October 13. The outlet put the cumulative count at 5.02 billion.

How it got here

The report traces a steady climb. Citing Chainspect data, it said Sui crossed 4.5 billion cumulative transactions in July and reached about 4.8 billion by September, with a seven-day average of roughly 80 transactions per second at the time. Sui's mainnet went live in May 2023, so the network reached the mark in a little over three years.

BSC News credited Sui's architecture: parallel execution, an object-based data model, and the Mysticeti consensus protocol, which went live on mainnet in July 2024 to cut latency.

A note on counting

Readers comparing dashboards will see very different numbers, and the reason is method, not error. Suiscan currently shows more than 6.2 billion transaction blocks and about 17.5 billion total transactions, because it counts the individual operations bundled inside each block separately. Sui's own 2024 year-in-review reported 7.5 billion total transactions by the end of that year. The 5 billion figure follows Chainspect's methodology. SuiWire has not been able to reconcile these numbers independently, so treat any single figure as specific to its source.

Why it matters, and why it doesn't

BSC News framed the milestone as a usage signal rather than a price catalyst, and that is fair. Cumulative counts only go up. Better measures of health are what the activity is worth and who generates it. Suiscan shows about 249 million total accounts and more than 200,000 new accounts in the last 24 hours. DefiLlama tracks Sui DeFi TVL at about $502 million.

The next test is whether the volume turns into lasting economic activity in stablecoins, DeFi and consumer apps. The Samsung Wallet integration and Hashi's Bitcoin finance launch, both announced at Basecamp, will be early indicators.
