Slush Lets Users Pay Network Fees in Stablecoins Across the Wallet, Including Swaps and Staking

Slush said stablecoins can now cover network fees for swaps, staking, unstaking, deposits and withdrawals, extending an option it introduced two weeks ago for sends and payments. Users pick a default under Settings, then Network fees.

Sui Updates: Slush Lets Users Pay Network Fees in Stablecoins Across the Wallet, Including Swaps and Staking

Slush, the Sui wallet built by Mysten Labs, has extended stablecoin network-fee payments to the whole wallet. Slush said Wednesday that the option now works across the app: users can swap, stake, unstake, and deposit or withdraw without using SUI. A default is chosen in Settings, under Network fees.

What changed

On October 14, Slush said users could pay the network fee with stablecoins instead of SUI when sending tokens and making payments, adding that more was on the way. Wednesday's update, Slush said, takes the option from those two actions to everything else in the wallet.

Sui's documentation lists standard gas, paid by the sender in SUI, as the default way a transaction pays its fees. A wallet that lets users settle fees in stablecoins removes the need to hold SUI first for the actions Slush named.

How it differs from gasless transfers

The change is separate from Sui's gasless stablecoin transfers. According to Sui's documentation, those cover only peer-to-peer transfers of allowlisted stablecoins, which carry no gas fee at all, and any other action, such as a swap, still needs a normal gas payment. Wednesday's update concerns the actions that fall outside that zero-fee category.

What has not been confirmed

SuiWire could not find Slush or Sui documentation that lists which stablecoins can be used to pay network fees or explains how those fees are settled. SuiWire will update this story if Slush publishes details.

Why it matters

Sui's payments documentation describes a cold-start problem: a new user who holds no SUI cannot pay gas, and so cannot transact. For users who arrive holding stablecoins, Slush's update means the actions it named no longer require SUI, and the choice of default is left to the user.
