Sui Memecoins Trade in the Shadow of Basecamp's Institutional Push

Basecamp put payments, Bitcoin finance and enterprise AI at the center of Sui's story. LOFI, HIPPO and a steady stream of launchpad tokens show the retail side is still active.

Sui Basecamp in Singapore was an institutional event. The biggest announcements were Samsung Wallet's USDC integration, Hashi's Bitcoin finance launch with more than $500 million in committed capital, and AI agent tooling built with Google Cloud and Alibaba Cloud. None of it involved memecoins. Even so, the network's meme tokens remain one of the most visible parts of its retail market.

LOFI: a meme token building out

LOFI, a Yeti-themed token, is one of the better-known memecoins on Sui. According to the project's website, it was a fair launch on Cetus. The team says it bought 25% of the supply on the market after launch and has airdropped tokens to Sui gamers, NFT communities, and staff at Sui Foundation and Mysten Labs.

The project is tied to the Mystic Yeti NFT collection. The team says wallets holding both LOFI and a Yeti NFT earn XP through its Lofi Legends program. Supporters describe LOFI as the largest memecoin on Sui. That ranking could not be independently verified, and market cap rankings for small tokens shift quickly.

HIPPO: a community takeover

HIPPO, whose contract name is sudeng, launched in September 2024 riding the Moo Deng craze. The main pool opened on Cetus on September 27, 2024, with about $208,500 in liquidity and around 8,000 holders, according to data on MemeSwap. The original developer later stepped away, and the token is now run as a community takeover, or CTO.

The HIPPO team now promotes it as the largest memecoin in the Sui ecosystem and says it has more than 75,000 holders. Neither claim could be independently verified.

Launchpads keep supply coming

New tokens keep arriving through launchpads such as Blast.fun, which runs bonding-curve launches and moves graduated tokens to Bluefin for trading. Launchpads make it cheap to issue a token. As on other chains, most of these tokens see little lasting liquidity.

The market backdrop

The meme market depends on broader Sui sentiment, and that sentiment is mixed. Usage has grown: the network crossed 5 billion transactions by BSC News' count, and DefiLlama puts Sui DeFi TVL at about $502 million. But commentators note that Basecamp's announcements have not yet produced a sustained rally in the SUI price. For meme traders, that leaves a market moving on its own momentum rather than on support from the network's news.

What to watch

Holder counts and "largest" claims are easy to inflate with airdrops and dust transfers. Market cap, liquidity depth and holder concentration in explorers such as Suiscan or Suivision are better measures. SuiWire plans to publish data-backed memecoin rankings in a future update.
