Alibaba Cloud and Sui announced on stage at Sui Basecamp in Singapore on October 7 that Alibaba Cloud services will be available through Sui Agent Payments. The announcement featured Mysten Labs co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun and Leo Li, who leads Alibaba Cloud's Digital Native and AI Native sectors for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

What Sui Agent Payments is

Sui Agent Payments lets AI agents buy APIs and services onchain. According to Sui's product page and docs, an agent pays per call in USDC against an onchain budget. The person or company behind the agent can cap spending by service, by total amount, by individual payment, and by expiry date.

The idea is that an agent can buy compute, data or AI inference without a human approving every charge, while staying within limits that can be checked onchain. Alibaba Cloud described it as giving AI agents a machine-native way to access cloud and AI services within defined controls.

Where it stands

Expectations should be measured. Sui's docs say Agent Payments is currently live only on Sui testnet, and paid calls are invite-only. Alibaba Cloud and Sui have not published an Alibaba-specific launch date, pricing or service list. Sui has also not said when the system will reach mainnet.

The bigger push

This is the latest step in a longer relationship. TokenPost noted that Sui already works with Alibaba Cloud on stablecoin payments. With the Google Cloud Verifiable Agent Arbiter announced a day earlier, Sui now has two of the largest cloud providers working on agent tooling around its stack. That is a notable signal, even if both projects are early.

For developers, the docs at sui.io/agentpayments are the place to start. For everyone else, the milestone to watch is mainnet: once paid calls open publicly, onchain data will show whether agents are actually spending.
