Tokenized Gold XAUa Goes Live on Sui Through TBook, Minted With Sui's Permissioned Asset Standard

TBook's vault offers AlphaToken's XAUa, one gram of gold per token, to approved accounts, with transfer rules enforced by Sui's Permissioned Asset Standard. AlphaToken's terms say the company named in them is not licensed or regulated by any financial regulator.

DeFi: Tokenized Gold XAUa Goes Live on Sui Through TBook, Minted With Sui's Permissioned Asset Standard

Another tokenized gold product is now live on Sui. TBook, which describes itself as an embedded RWA liquidity layer, said early Wednesday that its tokenized gold vault is live on Sui, offering XAUa, a gold token from AlphaToken that is minted with Sui's Permissioned Asset Standard (PAS). Sui's official account followed hours later, describing XAUa as Hong Kong-regulated tokenized gold issued by AlphaToken and distributed onchain by TBook. XAUa joins Matrixdock's XAUm, which launched natively on Sui in August 2025.

What XAUa is

XAUa is designed so that one token represents one gram of physical gold. TBook says the token is redeemable for physical gold held in LBMA-certified vaults. When TBook and AlphaToken announced their partnership in June, they said each token stands for 99.99% pure gold held in custody by Brink's in Hong Kong. AlphaToken handles issuance, while TBook channels qualified institutional demand to the issuer.

The product is aimed at approved accounts rather than the open market. TBook's gold page says buyers pay in USDC, that gold trading is available to approved accounts, and that orders run on Hong Kong market hours. TBook also runs a second vault, for rcUSD, a token backed by a money market fund and linked to short-term US interest rates.

Why PAS matters

PAS is a framework for assets on Sui that cannot move freely. Ordinary Sui coins can be sent anywhere by whoever holds them. Under PAS, balances sit in accounts, and every transfer has to collect approvals defined by the issuer's policy within the same transaction, or the transaction fails. Sui's documentation says this suits regulated financial instruments and compliance-bound tokens. TBook says AlphaToken's issuer controls are enforced on Sui through PAS, and the June announcement said XAUa can move only between approved accounts.

The regulatory picture

Neither Sui nor TBook named the regulator behind the "Hong Kong-regulated" description. AlphaToken's own terms of service say Alpha Digital Assets Ltd., the AlphaToken entity named in those terms, "is not registered, licensed, or regulated" by Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission, "or any other financial regulatory authority." DefiLlama's RWA dashboard, which lists XAUa's issuer as Alpha Global Reserve, labels the issuer "Suspicious" and, in a July 2026 review, notes that no auditor is named and no attestation has been published. SuiWire will update this story if TBook or AlphaToken clarifies which regulator, if any, oversees XAUa.

AlphaToken also supplies the blockchain infrastructure for a gold-backed token that Yunfeng Financial Group launched for professional investors in Hong Kong in May, Caixin reported.

Why it matters

Sui built PAS for issuers that need transfer controls written into the asset itself, and XAUa puts that design to work with a live, gold-backed product. How much gold actually flows through TBook's vault, and whether the issuer publishes reserve attestations, will show how far it goes.
